Monkeyfist.com Writer's Guidelines

Who we are

Monkeyfist.com, with a monthly, unpaid web circulation of about 50,000, including strong readership in Europe, is an independent progressive web magazine which features commentaries and essays about politics, culture, and technology.

What we want

Well-written and well-argued commentary, opinion, and reportage about US foreign policy, US and international politics, international affairs, corporate abuse, academic affairs, and so on. When in doubt, browse the Archives to get an idea about what we're interested in.

Intelligent, challenging, careful instances of identity politics, including pieces that expose or analyze racism, sexism, heterosexism, and the like.

Informed, critical analysis of the politics of technology, including surveillance, privatization, the war on public space, Internet and Web politics, etc.

Timely book, music, film, and other reviews, especially of alternative, independent, or non-corporate cultural artifacts.

In-depth analysis of social movements, propaganda, and other big ideas; interesting, well-written first-hand accounts of big protests and direct actions.

Photography and art; but be warned: we're picky.

How we get it

Send an email describing your idea(s) to Kendall.

Explain what you want to write about; give some indication of the approach and style of the piece; address your qualifications or relevant experience. Our lead time is about one-week; hence, time-bound pieces are appropriate but should be of national or international import, not merely local.

If you haven't written for us before, please include URL(s) to (or plain text attachment of) something you've previously published. First time authors are encouraged to query.

Monkeyfist.com assumes no responsibility for answering unsolicited queries in a timely fashion, if at all, and will only respond to those sent as plain text. Emails which include MS Word attachments will be deleted unread.
