.....
By now the names are familiar: Seattle, Davos, Washington, London, Philadelphia, Los Angeles. Next up: Melbourne and Prague.
The Monkeyfist Collective annual budget (a grand total of $0.00) doesn't allow for us to travel to Melbourne or Prague, as much as we'd like to report on those protests directly. But we're keeping our eyes fixed on both protests, of the World Economic Forum in Melbourne, and the World Trade Organization in Prague, to report, analyze, and dissect the significant protest events, the official reaction, and the quality of the coverage supplied by corporate media. But we're also acting locally across the country to join with likeminded others to spread the antiglobalization movement from the well-beaten protest paths to the cities and towns where we live.
That these protests are so numerous and so widespread is a welcome sign; it shows the depth and breadth of the worldwide movement against corporate globalization. But don't despair if you can't travel to Prague or Melbourne (or Austin in October for the Fortune 500 conference; or to any of the US Presidential Debate sites, etc.) because you can take local action where you live.
Find your nearest anarchist or Green or labor group; find the nearest university or college, where students are planning to bring the Antiglobalization Road Show to their town. Find the nearest likely expression of democracy in action and join it.
It's not a global movement until it comes to your city or town or village or neighborhood. What are you waiting for?
