Ralph Nader's candidacy is starting to attract a bit of
attention beyond the progressive elements of American society.
His financial disclosures recently, which the media have spun
predictably, will ironically, perhaps, reassure some folks
that he's not that weird.
Another popular sign of Nader's momentum is the slew of
music performers who have gotten behind him. The Indigo Girls
will be touring with Nader's running mate, Winona LaDuke, this
summer. Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine will do voter
registration at their concerts in support of Nader's
candidacy. That's cool.
A less obvious sign is the swelling national Green Party
convention in Denver this weekend, which I'll be covering in
person as a delegate. The organizers were originally expecting
approximately 400 attendees, but now expect 1,000, with many
of the swell coming from mainstream press.
