The core of the Python development team, including Guido van
Rossum, Tim Peters, Fred Drake, Jeremy Hylton, and Barry
Warsaw just got snapped up by BeOpen and is forming PythonLabs. (How
BeOpen's going to make money is anyone's guess, though
probably for-pay, Open Source add-ons, docs, consulting,
training, etc.) The most important result of this is that
these guys will now be working on Python full-time, which is a
great development (and certainly seemed to help Perl when
O'Reilly hooked up Larry Wall with a similar situation).
So now there are Canadian and American commercial Python
development entities joining Fred Lundh's outfit in
Sweden: ActiveState and
PythonLabs.
Long live Python!
