I've become increasingly disaffected with Red Hat for various
reasons, primarily because of its shoddy treatment of the free
software development community. My old friends at Novare used to try to
convince me that Red Hat was going to become the Microsoft of
free software, I rejected that as unfounded and defeatist. But
I have long maintained that for the long-term survival of the
free software community globally, Debian is vastly more
important than any commercial Linux distributor.
The fact that in many commercial circles Red Hat is thought of
as synonymous with Linux rankles me, but it may not be that
important in the long run. But at any rate hit the Red Hat is
Not Linux! site to express your support for fair play for
other commercial Linux distributions and for Debian too.
