Good UPS for Linux Box?

I've tried this before here, early on, and it didn't work very well, but our audience has grown some since then, so I'm trying again now: I'm in the market for a new UPS -- my APC Back-UPS Pro 650 is kaput -- and I'd like to hear from anyone who's used an APC Smart-UPS 700 or 1000 with a Linux box.

I'd particularly like to hear if you've used the APC's smart monitoring software under Linux. I never turn my box off; usually only bringing it down for vacations of more than 3 or 4 days. Last time it was off longer than a power cycle was in October when we were in Atlanta visiting Niel.

And since Dallas is the foot of Tornado Alley, one of the most thunderstorm-rich places on earth, we have lots of funky power episodes, so I don't mind spending real $$ on a good UPS.

I'll summarize what I hear (use the "Posted by Kendall Clark" link) and report back (ergo, if you don't hear about this again, the MF audience either isn't into tech stuff or is full of Tripp Lite fiends.)
