Australian General Aviation Crisis Continues

.....

What, you didn't know about the general aviation crisis in Australia? Seems some 5,000 piston-engine aircraft were filled up with avgas sold by Mobil and BP that had been contaminated with ethylene diamine during production. The Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority has issued a directive requiring grounding of all planes that used fuel from that batch. They haven't come up with a way to clean the deposits out of the engines yet. Thankfully, there are no reports of engine failure in flight.

Many private airplanes, as well as cropdusters, air ambulances, and tourist companies are in deep trouble. And remember, this is Australia, where by necessity a lot of mail delivery and firefighting is done by short hop aviation.
