The good old Atlanta Journal-Constitution took a rare respite from corporate cheerleading today to profile people who have opted out of the Dilbert life.
Most of them ditched well-paying corporate jobs for some sort of more "meaningful" work like feeding the homeless or painting murals in hospitals. Which is swell, but not all that countercultural -- the succorers of the poor you will always have with you.
No, I liked the story of the guy who paid down his debts and boosted his savings when he saw the corporate ax hovering. When Coke downsized him, he just kicked back to occasional part-time work in a bike store.
The Man, his Game, beaten.
Oh, all you corporate ants out there feeding this vast engine of wealth? Pay no attention to us grasshoppers; just keep writin' the checks.
