POTUS addressed the World Evil^H^H^H^HEconomic Forum in Davos yesterday. The New York Times covered it.

Mr. Clinton's theme of incorporating the poor in the new global economy received a mixed reception. The only applause during his speech was his reference to his State of the Union proposal to give tax benefits to companies that worked on vaccines for AIDS.

No suprise there, the global fat cats don't want to hear about anything but more tax breaks.

Tinges of anti-Americanism peppered some of the panel discussions. At one panel, a moderator asked for a "non-American" questioner. It was noted that Mr. Clinton swept into town with a bevy of cabinet secretaries, in contrast, for example, to Prime Minister Tony Blair of Britain, who came and went quietly on Friday.

As Mr. Clinton spoke, a cluster of annoyed participants and invited officials, including Gov. Christine Todd Whitman of New Jersey, had to cool their heels and listen in the hall outside after the Secret Service barred them from entering because of crowding.

Heh. So maybe it's not so egalitarian after all.
